Day 48: Ask yourself with each decision you make if you are doing the right thing.

Achieve Anything in 1 Year

Predicting whether or not a particular undertaking will be successful is impossible. So, how do you choose which goals to strive for? According to Harvey, Golda Meir has a terrific rule to go by: Ask yourself which one is the right thing to do.

There are many ways in which you can measure achievement, Harvey writes. “Happiness, influence, money, charity, and love are just a few ways in which you can evaluate your success,” Harvey writes. “But the evaluation usually comes after the endeavor. You want to develop a clear sense of direction long before you look back on your choices. How do you know that you are on the road to success?”

Harvey advises to think about what goes into your choices. Ask yourself these questions: Why did you choose your current job? How did you end up with the friends who surround you? Why do you choose to get up at a certain time in the morning or sleep in? Why did you decide to spend a holiday away from your family?

Harvey continues: “The most important test is to ask yourself if you did the right thing. The outcome really doesn’t matter if you know that you did what was right. If a project fails miserably, but you know you did the right thing, then you are still successful. If you are not selfish, and you reach out and help a person in need, you are successful.”
