Today’s Dadly Daily Declaration comes from Chapter 6 (titled #1. When You’re a Cleaner, You’re not intimidated by pressure, you thrive on it.) of Tim Grover’s book, Relentless: From Good to Great to Unstoppable. In this chapter, Grover discusses pressure, preparation, and how Cleaners thrive on pressure. He writes:
“If you’re a true competitor, you always feel that pressure to attack and conquer, your thrive on it. You intentionally create situations to jack up the pressure even higher, challenging yourself to prove what you’re capable of. You’re not waiting for a critical moment to dust off some mythic “gene” to showcase your greatness. You show it in everything you do, every chance you get.”
So, here is what I discovered today from this chapter:
Everyone can handle pressure. Most people choose not to because it’s easier to stay safe in the comfort zone. But if you want to be successful, to have that place in the sun, then you have to leave the shade. It’s not easy to leave the shade; it’s cool and comfortable, compared to the hot discomfort of the sun. But you can’t be relentless if you can’t take discomfort, and you can’t be unstoppable if you only deal with pressure when you have no choice…Take the positive view that pressure is a challenge that will define you; it gives you the opportunity to see how much you can take, how hard you can go.
