Dadly Daily Declaration

Thursday, December 20, 2018

Today’s Dadly Daily Declaration comes from Chapter 10 (titled Training) of Aubrey Marcus‘ book, Own The Day, Own Your Life.  This chapter focuses on physical training and using unconventional tools for physical conditioning.  Marcus stresses climbing a training pyramid that builds durability, cardio, endurance, strength, and power in service of long life, well lived and totally owned.

Marcus recommends using seven different trade tools: body weight, kettlebells, a steel mace, a club, a sandbag, a rope, and a barbell.  These tools are imperative to creating your ideal, option-filled, unconventional training pyramid.  This pyramid is a fifty minute workout that trains multiple kinetic systems, targeting a series of functional health priorities, that you can repeat with slight variations three or four times every week.  They pyramid consists of:

  • Durability (mobility + flexibility) for 15 minutes
  • Cardio for 10 minutes
  • Muscular endurance for 8 minutes
  • Strength for 5 minutes
  • Power for 3 minutes

Marcus details the routine, exercises and levels of the this pyramid in detail, which we won’t describe here.

All of this leads to today’s Dadly Daily Declaration, which is:

You just have to start. You just have to do a little bit of work.  Make the commitment to put one foot in front of the other and get to the gym.  Find ways to hold yourself accountable.  The animal inside you wants to move.  It wants to work. It wants to thrive.  It’s all a game of momentum.  One well-executed workout will leave you feeling more capable for the next, and so on, and so on…
